“For Little Ones” is his second (children‑/folk‑oriented) half of his 1967 double set A Gift from a Flower to a Garden. It’s a beautiful and somewhat underrated piece in his discography, with a lot of charm and a gentle, pastoral feel. Acoustic, folk‑leaning: The instrumentation is mostly acoustic guitar, flute, double bass, light percussion, occasional bells, etc. Very natural, unadorned. Minimal production: Donovan largely produces it himself with few overdubs, fewer session musicians (compared to his pop‑psychedelic work). It gives the record an intimate, sincere atmosphere.
