Imagine is John Lennon’s second solo studio album, released in September 1971. Co‑produced by John Lennon himself, Yoko Ono, and Phil Spector. Compared to his previous solo album John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band (1970), Imagine has more elaborate production and more varied arrangements. It’s more melodic and lush in parts. Lyrically, the album explores themes like peace, love, politics, interpersonal relation, personal introspection, and criticism of hypocrisy. Recording sessions were held in several places: Lennon’s own Ascot Sound studio (at his Tittenhurst Park home), EMI (London), and the Record Plant in New York City. Musicians on the album include (among others) George Harrison (ex‑Beatle), Klaus Voormann on bass, keyboardist Nicky Hopkins, drummers Alan White and Jim Keltner.
