Harvest – SHDW 411
The album took over a year to make and cost a fortune. The resulting live shows were massive, theatrical productions with giant puppets, a literal wall being built on stage, and elaborate visuals. Bob Ezrin helped shape the album into a coherent rock opera, pushing for narrative structure and even the inclusion of a hit single (he fought for “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2”). The band was in turmoil. Roger Waters had grown dominant and the group was splintering. Keyboardist Richard Wright was actually fired during the sessions (though he stayed on to perform the tour). It’s a rock opera that tells the story of a fictional character named Pink, who builds a metaphorical wall around himself to protect against the pain of life — only to face emotional and psychological collapse.
