Pond – Hobo Rocket (2013) – LP
Product information
Modular Recordings – MODVL176
Released in 2013 on the Australian label Modular Recordings, Hobo Rocket is the fifth studio album by Pond, a psychedelic rock band from Perth. With a sound reminiscent of Tame Impala – several of whose members have collaborated with Pond – the band develops a powerful, trippy and resolutely experimental sound on this album. Distorted guitars, cosmic synthesisers, hypnotic rhythms and warped sound effects combine to create a rich soundscape, inspired by the psychedelic rock of the 1960s and 1970s, but reimagined with a contemporary energy. Short and intense, the album prioritises sensations, contrasts and instrumental flights of fancy, immersing the listener in a strange, otherworldly atmosphere. With *Hobo Rocket*, Pond asserts its identity within the new Australian psychedelic scene and delivers a daring album, particularly appreciated by fans of alternative rock and vinyl records with experimental sounds.
