To Fall ». 2024 sera grand !
Au cours des 11 dernières années, Nick Wheeldon a enregistré près de 20 disques avec d'innombrables groupes - Nick Wheeldon's Demon Hosts, The Jesus Loves Heroin Band, Os
Noctàmbulos, The Necessary Separations, 39th & the Nortons, Nick & Alizon, Sex Sux, Nick Drunken
chaque instant. « Waiting For The Piano To Fall », comme « Gift », fut enregistré sur un Tascam 388
propos. La gentrification sur « They're Not Selling Flowers Around Here, Anymore' », les droits
« Waiting For The Piano To Fall ».

The man with multiple groups seems perpetually in search of imbalance and surprise. Like a transfixed
lover on a first date, Nick Wheeldon never tires and adds new formations with an ease that borders on
the supernatural. In addition, the number of advancing trains is disconcerting to say the least. After a
very notable first solo album in 2021, 'Communication Problems', and a 2nd 'Gift' (Album of the Month
*****, Rock & Folk) in 2022 Nick Wheeldon, the Parisian Englishman from Sheffield, returns with his
third LP, 'Waiting For The Piano To Fall'.. 2024 will be big!
Over the past 11 years, Nick Wheeldon has recorded nearly 20 albums with countless bands - Nick
Wheeldon's Demon Hosts, The Jesus Loves Heroin Band, Os Noctàmbulos, The Necessary
Separations, 39th & the Nortons, Nick & Alizon, Sex Sux, Nick Drunken Broken Arms & His False
Ninja Dylan Cobb, Dômo Kômô - each of them offering him a new opportunity to refine a sound
inspired by Gene Clark and Alex Chilton, at once majestic and fragile, delicate and raw.
His first solo album was recorded in his mates' bedrooms, the second in a day, with the idea of a
collective painting where the shape and format of the songs would never be the same each take.
"Waiting For The Piano To Fall", like "Gift", was recorded on a Tascam 388 8-track tape recorder
during a week-long session in the Normandy countryside (Télémaque studio in Caen). The band, The
Living Paintings, had never played together before this album and had no rehearsals before arriving at
the studio in February 2021. They arrived one by one at Télémaque, where they spent two days
setting up the studio then five days learning, arranging and recording the songs together. In April
2021, 'Stamping On The Daffodils' and 'Thief' were recorded live on Tascam 4-track cassette at
Fausse Boutique studio in Quimper, where the LP was mixed on 4 track by producer Paul Trigoulet.
"Waiting For The Piano To Fall' is the third LP in the triptych for which Wheeldon tried to capture a
moment, an acoustic photograph, a 'living painting'. The album is about the fragility of love, but not
only that. There are darker, more political themes running through the album. Gentrification on 'They're
Not Selling Flowers Around Here, Anymore', civil rights on 'Black Madonna', the end of the working
class on 'Stamping On The Dafodills', illegal wars on 'Routine Prisoner' and climate change and the
inevitable end of the world on 'Waiting For The Piano To Fall'.
The Living Paintings: Nico Brusq (Greg Ashley) - Drums, Stéphane Jach (Jach Ernest) - Fiddle, Luc
Martin (Bootchy Temple) - Bass, Sam Roux (Handy Curse) - Piano and Keyboards and Paul Trigoulet
(Don Idiot) - Lead Guitar, give a surprising colour, shape, confidence and experience to his
hypersensitive anti-folk songs. More elaborate arrangements take shape around subtle country soul
grooves in which even the gentlest ballads swing. The band is planning a tour in 2024 to celebrate this
new album.
Just as he likes to surround himself with musicians from all over France, Wheeldon is in the habit of
entrusting his records to a number of independent European labels. For the fourth time, Le Pop Club
Records is responsible for introducing his new music to the world, following the release of Dômo
Kômo's 'Bugs' LP in 2020 and his first two solo albums. We're delighted to be collaborating once again
with a musician who, in our humble opinion, continues to prove that he is one of the most important
French musicians of our time, English though he may be.
